Switchboard of Miami has a Web-based information and referral system, known as the Community Resource Directory. This comprehensive database contains info on over 3,000 service programs and support groups available in Miami-Dade County. It includes program descriptions, service locations and hours, fees (if applicable), intake procedures, wheelchair accessibility, and e-mail and Web addresses for service organizations. From the directory Web site, you can access a calendar of community events.
Switchboard of Miami also provides the Miami-Dade County community with comprehensive telephone crisis counseling, suicide prevention, information and referral services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. For example, they can help you find an affordable summer camp for your child, locate a referral for family counseling services, find child care or learning disabilities screening, or get advice about a rebellious adolescent, suspected child abuse, substance abuse in the home and much more.
The Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade
The Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade is an initiative of the Miami-Dade County Health Department. Its mission is to be a major catalyst for healthy living in Miami-Dade. The Consortium is made up of over 50 different organizations that are committed to bringing together a common voice in the area of health and healthcare information. In order to fulfill its mission the Consortium will represent the public health interest and the on-going processes of the development and implementation of healthier standards by involvement in the activities of the community. Miami-Dade County Commission for Women
The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women was founded in 1971 by feminist leader Roxcy Bolton. Its 26 members are appointed for four year terms by the Board of County Commissioners to serve in an advisory capacity to them and to the community and all agencies and persons in Miami-Dade County "with respect to all matters pertaining to the status of women." Each year, the commission publishes Connections, a directory of women’s organizations in the county.
